Goals, Plans & Systems
During the first month of a new year we all tend to make some promises. We set our intentions for what we desire to change. Some folks call them New Years resolutions. They are indeed promises to ourselves to better ourselves. Promises to the Lord to be more “spiritual” and be more like Him. Promises to our friends and our family to eat healthier and take care of ourselves. It’s the best time to turn over a new leaf because we are starting with a clean slate. We attempt to have new thoughts and support them with new actions. What we are saying is that we "resolve" to be different.
I want to encourage you to develop your own navigation system- your personal GPS. I have a map on my phone that helps me find locations that I want to get to. It speaks to me and guides me to the front door of those destinations that I want to show up at. Our own GPS is no different. When we activate it, we can be directed to the places that we desire to end up. It will help us stay on track so that we can follow through on our resolutions and fulfill our promises. What does the GPS stand for? Goals, plans, and systems. Let me outline it for you.
G: Goals
Too often the goals we set are outlandish. Set some reasonable ones that you can accomplish if you put your mind and heart into it. Start small and set bigger goals as you mature in this process. As you get stronger. dream BIGGER!
P: Plans
Once goals are set, develop a plan that can be followed to help guide you where you are going. The plan is the outline or strategy for how you are going to achieve the goal. When you write it down it is much easier to hold yourself accountable because you can see it every day.
S: Systems
The system contains the action steps that allow you to follow the plan and bring the goals to fulfillment. Your system is the actual energy you use to carry out the plan and reach the goal. Taking steps toward your goals each day, regardless of how big or how small they may seem.
A man once said “a sailor without a destination cannot hope for a favorable wind.” Again, we need to write down our goals. Failing to plan is planning to fail. You can get to the goals that you have set. Just follow your own GPS!
This is YOUR year. Set your GPS and go for it!
