Three Things About Temptation

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
—1 Corinthians 10:13

I know you just read this verse but take a moment to slowly read each sentence again. Did one of these three sentences really capture your attention? What jumped out? There is something in each short verse that is highlighted for me each time. Here are three truths in this text about your temptations.

  1. Your temptations are not unusual
  2. Your temptations are not unbearable
  3. Your temptations are not inescapable

So many times I used to think that no one else was having to deal with the things I was dealing with. My temptations were special. They only happened to me. You just couldn't understand. Don’t you think for a moment that whatever you are facing is unusual. This is normal! If you are a human being, you’re tempted. Nothing you are going through is unique. It's a common happening. Ever said, “I just can’t take this anymore! It’s too much!” You may have even said that today but it’s simply not true. You were built with amazing resiliency. There is nothing unbearable about this. You’re stronger than you think. And know this...when you are tempted (and you will be), God has an escape plan that will always untangle you from that web of deception. I think its kind of interesting that he said a way out is to stand up under it:)

So keep your eyes open and watch the road! Those common, disruptive potholes that life holds can be navigated around. You can make it through. God's got you covered. Enjoy the trip!
