Just Get Rid of the Devil
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Many folks are going to open to the supernatural this week. It's Halloween and spiritual sensitivities are peaked high. In 1 Peter 5, we are told that the enemy prowls around looking for someone who is not strong in faith: able to be devoured. The devil is not interested in helping you succeed. Perhaps we could all learn what the Tampa Bay Devil Rays learned as they made their way to the World Series several years ago. They went from worst to first by getting rid of the Devil! (They became the Tampa Bay Rays)
Scripture tells us to resist the enemy and stand firm in the faith. When you are being attacked spiritually, it is too late to learn the lessons. By being self-controlled and alert you can learn as you prepare yourself so that when attacks come you can endure and overcome them. Notice that this text talks about the fact that you are not suffering alone. Others are going through tough patches too.
This week we will look at each of the things that God promises to do with us and for us as we stand firm. This is not the devil's time of year...this is the day the Lord has made. Let's rejoice and be glad in it!
