Season of Prayer and Fasting

He dwells with you and will be in you. John  14:17

Today is the day I launch another season of prayer and fasting. I've been doing this in January for as long as I can remember. At first it was to lose all of the pounds packed on during Christmas. Fasting can do that for you. But any fast without prayer added to it is just a diet. As I matured I realized that not only was this a good season to detox physically, I needed some spiritual toxins removed as well. I am so grateful that even though the Lord has orchestrated my steps and moved me to a new city and allowed me to be part of a new church, they too understand the value and benefits of starting the year by giving yourself to God in every way.
This scripture out of the Gospel of John is talking about the Holy Spirit. If I were honest I would tell you that most of my life I did not look at Him as God, the third person of the Trinity, but rather as some supernatural power that could be summoned to change circumstances and help me. The problem with not understanding that the Holy Spirit is a person and not a power is that you can never have a personal relationship with Him until you do. He(the Holy Spirit) dwells with you and will be in you. The Holy Spirit guides you into all truth and leads you to the people and things that should be part of your life. As I start a 21 day season of prayer and fasting, I am praying that this relationship we have will grow exponentially and that I will learn how to listen and allow Him to show me, teach me and guide me every day.
How about you? When was the last time you had a conversation with the Holy Spirit? Start your week and your year eliminating the things you don't need to make room for what you desperately need today. He dwells with you and will be in you!
