Born Again?

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. ” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” (John 3:3-8 NIV)

You must be born again? It confused Nicodemus then and many others today. How can this be? Jesus speaks of our soul and spirit needing cleansed and renewed much like our bodies do. Our spiritual life can become polluted by ideas that are not healthy much like our bodies can be harmed by foods that are toxic. When we surrender our lives to Jesus so that we can serve Him and He can work through us, we experience a new birth that prepares us for an eternity with Christ. We are born again...born into life with Jesus!

I cannot explain many things that scripture tells us and that Jesus said. But I do know that life with Him in charge is so much more fulfilling that life with me in control. As we approach Easter, this is a great time to make a decision to trust the Lord with your life, your talents and your resources. This is the year that you give it all to Jesus and watch how He takes care of everything necessary for you to live the life He designed for you. Start fresh. Allow your spirit to be born again in Christ!
