Serve the Lord

Luke 4:38-39 After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother-in-law very sick with a high fever. “Please heal her,” everyone begged. Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them.

Peters mother in law was not feeling well. Jesus was with Peter when they arrived at his house and Peter asked for her to be healed. Jesus takes charge, heaven is summoned and instantly the illness is healed. But it's the next part that always catches my attention. She's been in bed with a high fever, certainly weak and uncomfortable, and when she is healed she jumps out of bed and makes dinner! What a woman! I can hear all the women in the world saying Amen right now! But she wasn't healed so that they could eat!

I see people all the time that the Lord touches and heals. They come for prayer and Jesus meets them right where they are. Many of those that are healed seem to find other things to do afterwards besides coming to church and thanking the Lord for healing. The lesson for me in this story is to recognize the importance of serving Jesus. As soon as Peters mother-in-law was better, she started serving. She understood that the reason we live, work, and worship is to be in relationship with Christ and to serve Him with our time, talents and treasures.

Has he touched your body? Get up and serve Him. Has He blessed you rchildren? It's time to thank Him by using the things He put in you to bless others. You are healed not just to be well, but rather to be well and do what you were created to do...to live for Jesus and serve Him. After healing comes helping. Find someplace today to honor what the Lord has done for you by getting connected to His plan for you.
