Preach the Word

2 Timothy 4:2 "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry."
There is a dire need in our world today for people who will correct, rebuke and encourage. To correct you will need to know the truth...the truth which is the Word of God. To rebuke you will need to believe the truth that you know so that you are passionate about it and spiritually persuasive. But notice the last part. It's the most important. Encourage! We have got a lot of folks in the church that are great at correcting and rebuking but awful when it comes to encouragement. When you encourage as part of the process, you help establish friendship and trust. You talk WITH people rather that AT them!
Why is all of this so important? Because some believers are going to "abandon their faith" and gravitate towards people that say things that make them feel better...not live better. There is a difference. They turn away from the truth and start to follow myths. A myth is a story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation. So how do we make certain that we do not become one of the fall away statistics?
Keep your head in ALL situations. Endure hardships and do the work of an evangelist. Share the truth about the Lord and how He has changed you and you will be so busy testifying that you wont have time to be seduced by another train of thought. You have a ministry which contains no mythology! Preach the WORD!
