1 Timothy 6:12 "...pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12Fight the good fight of the faith."
There are many things in the Word of God that we are instructed to stay away from. I've known so many people in a variety of denominations in my life and each of them has had a long list of "do not's". Seems like we sometimes want to take all of the don'ts and amplify them until the world hears us. Jesus seemed to have another approach. He always pointed to the positive. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Do good. Whatsoever you DO, in Word or deed, DO it as unto the Lord.
As I have grown older I have gravitated to think more like the way Jesus taught...I strive to focus on the do's. In the scripture out of 1 Timothy today we are told to pursue some things that will be very important to us. Righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
What I have found in my life is that the more I pursue these types of things, the less I desire or move towards the things that are harmful. The fight for faith in the day and age is a good one...and a hard one. It IS a fight. To DO good is a fight. We need each other for support and for assistance. We should help to bring hope to the people in our lives. We should be a good influence on them and the beautiful part is that WE should become beautiful people by helping others. It's how we move in the direction of the dos and away from the don'ts.
So what are you DOing? Don't fret. Whatever you DO, DO it for Him!
