Drift Away

I was listening to an oldies station the other day and heard this old Dobie Gray song: “give me the beat boys and free my soul; I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away…” As I listened and, well, yes sang too, I started to drift away in my mind to a place I was when I heard that song long ago. Though this was a remake of the original, the music caused me to go way back.
When I came to myself , back in the present moment I thought about how easy it is to be distracted from what we are doing or thinking. How easy is it to drift away?
Hebrews 2:1 tells us to “pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” The Bible tells us that as we live our lives in these days, some people are going to abandon their faith and turn to things that FEEL good over things that ARE good. We must be careful to pay attention to the subtle shifting that occurs in our lives. We cannot afford to give the “devil a foothold”, which means to open up a crack in our lives where evil can come in and infect us.
Today, be careful to guard your heart and your mind and stay focused on this beautiful plan that God has for your life. This is your year to prosper in every way…to go from a mentality of payment faith to payoff faith! You are going to be blessed as you stay tethered to His Word and tied to the dock...I mean Rock!
