Purify Yourself
“Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”- 2 Corinthians 7:1
A few weeks ago my office computer was contaminated. It was more than a virus and it was nearly impossible to eliminate. I tried all of the tricks, all of the programs and still he virus was there. It would have been easy to quit, get frustrated and even stop using this computer. But I decided that I would be DILIGENT and keep after it. I was finally able to get it off the computer but I had to go to the "root" of the trouble. Once it was removed from the root, the computer was no longer infected.
Our bodies are infected the same way. Viruses and programs attack us to bring sickness and disease and keep us from performing at full capacity. Our verse today talks about getting rid of everything that contaminates the body and the spirit. Masking the problems will not eliminate them. Denying that the exist won't wither. We have to go to the root of the trouble and eliminate it. If we are consistent and if we remain diligent, we can move forward and become more like Christ in every area of our lives.
What things, what people are contaminating you today? Don't let the infection spread into other areas. Ask God to help you identify the root cause and then remove it. Use the promises of God to help you stand up under the attacks. Speak the Word out over your situation. Jesus sent His Word to heal. You may need to change some friends, some places you hang out or some habits you have grown accustomed to doing. Start today and completely purify your life.
