Can You Hear Me Now?
It’s what we say to someone as we leave their presence. Many times we do not really want them to call, it’s just a way for us to end the conversation and get out of there. We have ways to eliminate folks from communicating with us today. Caller ID tells us who is calling, voice mail takes their message and call forwarding sends them to another number altogether. In fact, you don’t have to talk to anyone today if you don’t want to. You can even be in another state other than your own and no one could tell the difference. Your voice mail at home can call your cell phone to tell you if someone left a message. So what’s with all of the tricks?
We have made ourselves so accessible that most of our day can be tied up in just answering the requests of those that want to reach us. Between email, voice mail and texting you can go absolutely crazy. When I worked with Carman Ministries, I was usually on call 24/7 which meant at any moment I could be called upon for information or to solve a problem. But in the year 2000, when I resigned and moved to Tulsa, something happened. For many weeks I received no phone calls. It was as if the world lost my number. I was freaking out…I had all the gadgets but they were dormant…no activity. At first I went through the thoughts that “no one needs me”, “no one wants to talk to me”. It was wireless withdrawals that I was going through. After a season of cellular rehab, I began to enjoy the newfound freedom. I realized that I could set up a way to communicate and be communicated with that would not tie me up in superfluous hoopla. And then, being the preacher I was becoming, I thought about God’s system. Much different than mine. No call forwarding and no voice mail. No texting, no “sorry I’m not available” messages. No dropped calls…He REALLY raised the bar even higher than AT&T! And the greatest part about communicating with him was that he was always linked up to talk to me.
Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me, and I will answer you…” WOW! Someone that always picks up the phone, someone that always has a word of encouragement, someone that will even listen when I just have to talk or vent my frustration. And the best part is that every time I talk to him, I get a glimpse of the future. Read on…it says, “and I will show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” I like that. Mighty things. Great things. Things that will surprise me and things that will benefit me and all who are in my life.
The bar has been raised and I am IN the family network. I have unlimited anytime minutes with Christ. And this plan is even better than family talk…it’s anyone can talk. And at anytime. So the next time you experience frustration in your communication, make sure you keep God’s phone number close: Jeremiah 33:3…where he says it and means it…call me! Can you hear me now?
