A Way of Escape
1 Corinthians 10:13 (New International Version)
13No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
During this last year, I have come across this verse more than any other time in my life. Read it carefully because it is full of wisdom to help. The first thing I always notice is that when we are tempted, we MUST remember that we are not alone! You are not the first person to go through this nor will you be the last...its common if you are a human being. God is faithful. He does not allow you to be bombarded with more stuff than you can defend against. And He provides a way out.
Now I have always read this and simplified it like this:
1: Im not the only one going through this
2: God is faithful and I wont be pushed beyond what I can bear(with HIM)
3: He will provide a way of escape
I usually stress that "way out" idea because when I am tempted I want to be lifted out of the temptation. But read it closer: "he will always provide a way out so you can stand up under it." What! I missed that! It means that I STAND UP and temptation goes: I don't run out!
We default to the idea that escaping means that I am running away. But when you are a follower of Christ and you are allowing His power to work in you, things change. When temptation comes YOU STAND UP under it! You get stronger and you trust more upon the Lord working in you. You don't run out , temptation does!
Today your way out may be as simple as just STANDING UP. Face the fear, the obstacle in the power of the Lord that is within you. Activate the Lord to allow His spirit to rise in you and that temptation will NOT be unbearable. In fact you will be made stronger. And because you are being strengthened in Him, your way out is that the temptation flees when you STAND UP under it. Challenges, trials and pressures make you stronger. Stand UP and let the temptations flee!
