Stubborness
I have been reading the story of Moses and the multiple requests that he made of Pharoah to let the people go from Egypt. Even after all of the plagues he still refused the man of God's request. I would have thought that the frogs and the flies would be enough. But then add locusts and boils on the bodies of the people! Just how stubborn was he? Pharaoh did not relinquish his hold on the Israelites until the tenth plague came upon him. God came through at midnight and killed all of Egypt's first born males. There was the sound of anguish, despair and the stench of death throughout the land. It was enough. He let the people go.
It made me think about how many times I am stubborn. How often do I rebel against God and not allow myself to be led by His spirit. Yesterday we alluded to two types of fires, fires that destroy and fires that purify. Check out this verse in Romans:
Romans 2:5 (The Message)
5-8You're not getting by with anything. Every refusal and avoidance of God(being stubborn) adds fuel to the fire. The day is coming when it's going to blaze hot and high, God's fiery and righteous judgment. Make no mistake: In the end you get what's coming to you—Real Life for those who work on God's side, but to those who insist on getting their own way and take the path of least resistance, Fire!
That's divine judgment coming to those that refuse to listen to what God is saying and allow themselves to remain stubborn and hard-hearted. Are you a rebel? Does conflict seem to reside everywhere you go? Perhaps today you and I can listen more intently to what God is saying and allow ourselves to be consumed by His presence and go with the flow of His spirit. Don't store up wrath against your life as Pharoah did. Don't let it go to the tenth degree: the tenth plague. God is showing us the way. Let's start walking in it today!
