Diligence
When we come to God we must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. Diligence is the keyword for our church for 2009. It's defined as a steady application of His power to move us forward in a positive direction. Another definition is a constant or earnest effort to accomplish what is being undertaken.
Ministry is like a marathon. How you finish is much more crucial than how you start. I have always enjoyed starting new things. I think most of us have no problem on the front end of a project. But when the newness wears off, when months have gone by, and when some of the fun has been replaced with tedious details and personality conflicts; well that's when we must have diligence kick in. It was CERVANTES that said “idleness never brought a man to the goal of any of his best wishes.”
How can you become more diligent? Start moving. Keep moving. We cannot afford to become lazy and inactive. As we put our whole heart into what the Lord is doing with us and let nothing move us, we will stand firm and God will show up strong.(read 1 Corinthians 15:58) So this year, the people that I am connected to are going to be great finishers. We are going to streamline our ideas and events and do them in magnificent ways. We are going to allow a spirit of excellence to pour out of our lives in every way.
Maybe you have been slothful in some area of your life and God is speaking to you about getting back in the game. A steady application of His power will move YOU in a forward direction. You can't win if you won't begin. Diligent hands rule. The desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. The plans of the diligent lead to profit. This is your week! Go make a difference!
