No Room

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

It's part of the Christmas story taken from Chapter 2 of the Book of Luke. Joseph travels back to his homeland for the census with his pregnant wife by his side. It had to be difficult. Number one, they weren't married. This was a divine happening and those types of things usually conflict with natural intelligence. The second thing that made this trip tough is that she was pregnant. It's easy to understand this. Traveling any distance in this condition is hard on the body and the emotions. But the last thing is hard to wrap your mind around. There was no room at the inn for them to stay. So this baby, our Lord and Savior, would be born in a stable. At first glance you may think God was a poor planner. Sending his son into the world without even securing a spot at the Holiday Inn...come on! He should be staying at the finest hotels and in the most comfortable of surroundings. Some people blame the innkeeper for not recognizing the magnitude of this situation and making a way for THIS child. But if you know Christ, if He lives in your heart today, you understand that God indeed had a plan. He wanted us to know that He feels our pain when we must travel in difficult conditions. He wanted us to realize that given birth to anything, a baby, a dream, a business will take some time and often be uncomfortable. And He wanted us to understand that humility precedes honor. You can always find Christ in the midst of humility.

There will be alot of hoopla during the holidays. Most of it is for our benefit. The most incredible Christmas story is when a person quietly bows their head and asks Jesus Christ to live in their heart and be their Lord and Savior. This is the season when incredible things happen...miracles. Don't try to analyze every event and activity. Just realize that God knew you would need help. He created a way for that help to walk beside you. He allowed that way to take away every one of your sins. And through the power of His resurrection, He made a way for that help to live in you for all eternity. You may have to travel through some tough conditions. You may become pregnant with ideas that people don't seem to be ready for and cannot understand. You may even feel like you have not been included in the "elite" group and that you don't belong. Just keep your eyes on Him. Make room for Him in your heart right now. The reason for the journey, the labor pains and the birth will all soon be realized!
