Losing the Baggage
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
We are part of an incredible team that God is putting together. In fact, if we are sensitive to His spirit we will see that we are surrounded. And if we are to compete and win on this team, we are encouraged to lose the baggage. Notice that it does not just talk about sin. Throw off everything that hinders and the sin that entangles. There are some habits that we do not need to keep feeding. There are attitudes and emotions that are like weights we must lay aside. They can be as damaging to our progress as any unforgiven sin. Once we rid ourselves of this excess weight, we must focus: fix our eyes on the One that made it through all of this and showed us what true success is.
When we carry the wrong things with us and focus on the wrong goals,we run the risk of losing heart and giving up. Today, get in the game. Lose the excess baggage and lay all of your burdens at the feet of Jesus. Keep your eyes on the prize, that is Jesus and a life that is truly devoted to Him. This is your day to turn it all around. Stop carrying those things with you that God has asked you to lay aside. You are not alone. You are surroudned by many people that have learned already how to lay aside the wieghts and sin and follow Christ. If you are going to lose heart, give it to Jesus!
